Monitor: What works
- Staff, students and community work together to develop the monitoring and evaluation tools, processes, procedures and analysis of data.
- Monitoring and evaluation includes the use of 'soft' data (eg observed behaviours and interactions, anecdotes, stories, feedback) and 'hard', measurable data (eg student academic results, organisational health surveys, parent/student surveys, attendance and participation statistics).
- Establish benchmark data to indicate where the school is at in the beginning of a process and to provide a means of measuring change over time.
- Use the monitoring data as tools to assist in continuous improvement, to review and revise approaches to improve effectiveness.
- Be conscious and explicit about the values underpinning the approach to monitoring (eg inclusiveness, respect, privacy, transparency, collective responsibility).
