Monitor: What works

Staff, students and community work together to develop the monitoring and evaluation tools, processes, procedures and analysis of data.
Monitoring and evaluation includes the use of 'soft' data (eg observed behaviours and interactions, anecdotes, stories, feedback) and 'hard', measurable data (eg student academic results, organisational health surveys, parent/student surveys, attendance and participation statistics).
Establish benchmark data to indicate where the school is at in the beginning of a process and to provide a means of measuring change over time.
Use the monitoring data as tools to assist in continuous improvement, to review and revise approaches to improve effectiveness.
Be conscious and explicit about the values underpinning the approach to monitoring (eg inclusiveness, respect, privacy, transparency, collective responsibility).
